My goodness, when a man puts his mind to something, there’s nothing he can’t do.

According to the movies below, a man can make monsters, cheat death, and even turn to stone!

Frankly I’ve never felt the urge to do any of those things, but I admire the men who can accomplish such things.

Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a movie called The Man Who Could Make a Monster That Could Cheat Death and Turn to Stone!

Man-Made Monster (1941)

Lon Chaney, Jr., plays a circus performer called "Dynamo Dan the Electric Man", who can withstand charges of electricity -- in fact, they actually make him glow in the dark. Lionel Atwill is an evil scientist who experiments on Chaney, turning him into a white-faced zombie with a lethal electric touch.

Chaney is sent to prison, where he manages to survive the electric chair and then escape to rescue Anne Nagel from the crazed doctor.

Special effects by John P. Fulton endow the film with visual treats. Made the same year as Chaney's famous "The Wolf Man", which was much more successful. Chaney's role was originally written for Boris Karloff.

The Man Who Turned to Stone (1957)

Low budget Columbia production in which Victor Jory presides over a group of centuries-old scientists who conquer aging by submerging young women in a chemical-filled tank and extracting the substance necessary to rejuvenate aging villains.

The title refers to what happens to the ghoulish men if they miss a treatment — which of course they do by the story's climax.

Also starring Charlotte Austin, Paul Cavanaugh, and Ann Doran. Directed by Leslie Kardos.

The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959 England)



Slick Hammer Studios remake of "The Man in Half-Moon Street".

Anton Diffring plays a sculptor who, despite being one hundred years old, looks young because of periodic gland transplants that require victim-donors.

He develops a fascination for pretty Hazel Court ("Devil Girl from Mars") and forces her boyfriend, a doctor (Christopher Lee), to assist him in his gruesome rejuvenation process.

Directed by Hammer veteran Terence Fisher from a script by the prolific Jimmy Sangster.
