Wow, IMDB gave us the bare bones of this story. So, after watching it, please allow me to flesh it out a bit.

First of all, the picture quality of this season 1 color episode is very good. That's good.

Second, the opening demonstion by Mr. Bradley is enjoyable. It deals with magnetism. So, that's more good news.

The cast is composed of familiar face such as James Craig, Steve Brodie, and Adam Williams (the father of two of The Space Children (1958).

The story begins somewhat like The Thing from Another World, with a military aircraft transporting two scientists to a dangerous area in the Artic where a volcanic eruption is taking place. One of the scientist (played by Everett Glass) was in the cast of War of the Worlds.

But that's where the similarity ends.

All the aircraft's electronic systems fail because of a "magnetic storm" caused by sun spots. So the story becomes a struggle to survive in an aircraft that can't navigate, while the crew worries about running out of fuel.

This episode has nice special effects of the aircraft in flight, something that isn't always the case with this series.

The elderly scientist uses his scientific knowledge to invent brilliant ways to calculate the aircraft's altitude and direction — a dazzling display of the man's intelligence in this dangerous situation. As a result, the aircraft makes it to it's destination safely.

The admirable interaction between the scientists and the crew make this episode a joy to watch.
