"Probe" is a science fiction mystery show by writer Michael Wagner and science fiction author Isaac Asimov.
Parker Stevenson is Austin James the smartest man in the world. He founded the science company Serendip, that he has absolutely no interest in running, much to the frustration of his long suffering company Director. Because of his intellect Austin is somewhat isolated from people. He prefers to spend his time in his secure warehouse working on his new technology and inventions,
Ashley Crow is Michelle "Mickey" Castle the latest attempt by the Director to assign a Secretary to Austin. Her instructions were to NOT let Austin fire her like all the others.
After she accidentally solves an unsolvable riddle, the computer grants her access to the warehouse, much to Austin's chagrin. Mickey manages to divert Austin from firing her. He later comes to appreciate her unconventional observations, some of which gives Austin the information he needed to solve the mystery. Mickey helps push Austin to get involved with events in the outside world.
Getting Austin to be involved with the operations of Serendip is another matter.
I really enjoyed the show, the crimes all involved some high tech element. But as the smartest man in the world I wish he had faced some larger crimes.
The show only lasted for 8 episodes and is considered a casualty of the 1988 Writer's strike.
