A look at the miniature effects in old movies is the latest at Matte Shot.

What a great article!

(Hey, look! Wayne was right. They do tilt 'em back for the light . . . Very Happy)

I LOVE the 1930s and 1940s classics that use miniatures like the ones shown in that article. I watched Casablanca just last night and was thinking how wonderful it must have been to work with the folks who did those FX, especially the guy shown below . . .

A. Arnold Godzilla!

And I want this model hanging in my living room so badly I'd sell my blood to raise the price!

And then there's these two guys, in some movie I've haven't seen (lately Very Happy).

Thanks, Eadie! This site was quite a find! Cool

Look at all of the oil derricks in the background of the first photo! Try doing that in CA. now, and see what happens to you! Laughing

Hey, maybe they're just miniature oil derricks! It's a special effect inside a special effect. Wink

Sometimes there is no substitute for real. In the new movie "Fury" the final tank battle is a A4 Sherman v a Tiger. The booms and stuff are practical effects. To respect the story there was no way to make it look right with models or CGI. The audience they had to please were the tankers who lived in the Shermans on the fields of Europe that trained the actors in the movie.
