Considered for key roles on ST: TNG.

Roy Thinnes (The Invaders, Journey To the Far Side of the Sun) as Captain Picard. Yaphet Kotto (Alien, Live and Let Die) for Picard.

Ben Murphy (Alias Smith & Jones, Gemini Man) for Commander Riker.

Jenny Augutter (Logan's Run, An American Werewolf in London) for Dr. Beverly Crusher.

Interesting.

I don't see Ben Murphy as Riker. I'm not sure why.

Jenny Augtter would not be able to do Dr. Crusher well.
Not enough (or any) Range.

Roy or Yaphet could have done Picard well, but with each Picard would have been a much different character.
