The Secret Service was a science fiction/espionage television series created by Gerry & Sylvia Anderson that ran for 13 episode from September 21, 1969 until December 14, 1969.
Premise: Father Stanley Unwin is a parish priest in an English village. Upon the death of his close friend, the brilliant scientist Professor Humbolt, Father Unwin was bequeathed by Humbolt his final invention, the Minimiser.
The Minimiser can shrink people to a height of two-feet. It is hidden inside a large book.
Father Unwin now moonlights as an operative of B.I.S.H.O.P.(British Intelligence Service Headquarters Operation Priest). This agency fights criminals and any terrorist threats.
Father Unwin works alongside top intelligence agent Matthew Harding who poses as a gardener at Father Unwin's Vicarage.
On assignments, Father Unwin uses the Minimiser on Harding which reduces his height to two-feet. Harding then conceals himself in a specialized suitcase. The suitcase can be opened from inside by agent Harding and is equipped with a chair, periscope, and a number of compartments housing miniaturized tools that may be required for a mission.
Father Unwin and Harding communicate via linked radio receivers. Father Unwin's is disguised as a hearing aid.
Father Unwin is able to go to various places and not be suspected by the enemy as a secret agent because he really is a priest. Father Unwin always brings along his suitcase. This allows agent Harding to covertly move around anyplace and investigate due to his reduced height. |
