From the marionette wizards who created "Stingray" and "Supercar" comes this feature version of the popular children's show about a futuristic family who are members of the International Space Rescue Service. The amazing miniature props and sets are a delight to children (of all ages).
Lady Penelope (with the voice of producer Sylvia Anderson) accompanies the Tracy family on their voyage to Mars, where they must battle Hood, a fugitive from interplanetary justice.
Followed in 1968 by "Thunderbird Six". One of the reasons why Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's "super marionation" series is so enjoyable is that the action is fast-paced and fun, and the special effects are impressive. Admittedly the strings are sometimes visible on the spaceships, but that's okay -- it's a marionette show. Puppets are supposed to have strings. Directed by David Lane. _________________ ____________

I never really cared that the wires could be seen at times, even as a very young child I knew that this wasn't real, and it didn't bother me or break my suspension of belief at all.
The miniature work WAS fantastic!!!! |

Buried in the darkest corners of the internet, there exists a company called Screen Archives Entertainment. In the even darker corners of the video geek world, there is a company called Twilight Time.
For many years, Screen Archives Entertainment (SAE) thrived as a seller of motion picture soundtrack CDs. Twilight Time (TT) was formed little over three years ago to license and release movies for LIMITED Blu-ray release when the major studios lost interest in them. Twilight Time made SAE their exclusive agent for Blu-ray releases...if you want a TT Blu-ray, you have to order it from SAE.
Needless to say, the marriage of two small, online companies means that many releases go completely unnoticed by the general public. TT has released a number of extremely high quality (and a bit expensive) Blu-rays from masters provided by the big studios. These releases are limited to 3,000 units.
One such release to escape public notice was the Blu-ray double feature of THUNDERBIRDS ARE G0 and THUNDERBIRD 6. Fortunately, as the proud owner of this disc, it did not escape MY notice.

Brent, one of these days you're going to tell us something so hush-hush and top secret that you'll have to kill us afterwards.
Meanwhile, I'll continue to bribe you with these in a desperate effort to save my own worthless hide. _________________ ____________

Fun Facts } All new Thunderbird vehicles, puppets, and Tracy Isle settings were created for TAG.
The television version of the models & so forth would not stand up to the scrutiny afforded by the large silver screen in theaters.
First feature film shot utilizing the Livingston Electronic Viewfinder Unit aka Add-a-Vision.
Sounds like the Video-Assist device created by Jerry Lewis. |

My first encounter with Thunderbirds was this movie. In 1969, my Mom dropped me off at the show one Saturday, I had no idea what she was sending me to see.
I loved it!
In the late 70s there was a movie theater that showed mostly kids movies on Saturday mornings. On my recommendation, a group of us went to see this movie. The guy in the box office looked confused, and asked us if we knew that this was a marionette movie. I replied that it was a SUPERMARINATION movie (that's how it was billed when I first saw it). We left the poor box office guy in shock.
