I have to apologize for not getting out on this forum enough, but to make up for it, here's my review of one of the most acclaimed SF films of late. And although it's had a divisive audience reaction, I think it deserves most of its accolades. |

I've got a DVD copy of this, but I haven't watched it yet. Your review has whetted my appetite for it. Thank you!

That's a rather weird tag-line on the poster: "Amy Adams; Jeremy Renner; Forest Whitaker - Why are they here?" To make a movie, perhaps... |

The trailer makes this one look good, but I read the Wikipedia summary of the plot. I would have stopped before spoiling the story for myself, but I starting getting the sense that the plot was becoming increasingly whack-a-doodle and it might be a disappointed in the movie.
But I've since been told it's really very good!

I tried to like this movie, and admittedly it has some interesting concepts. For example, the I like the fact that the twelve spaceships each give one twelfth of the complete message to different countries, forcing them to work together to understand it.
But the movie ends without giving me a very satisfying conclusion. Even after reading the Wikipedia plot description (I still can't figure out if those are "synopses" or "summaries") I feel cheated by all the murkiness of the story.
The idea that the aliens' language somehow give humans the ability to see the future is not explained well. And as far as I can remember, no info is given about the event that will occur in 3,000 years which the aliens will need mankind help with.
Did I miss something that would strengthen that a bit? _________________ ____________
