Darren McGavin and Nick Adams star in this weak, low-budget tale (filmed in Miami) about astronauts battling alien forces during a space journey. A dead Russian is resurrected and a strange sphere gobbles up human beings. Directed by Nicholas Webster.
But hey, who could resist the urge to watch a movie whose poster shows spacemen battling alien plants which shoot death rays, alongside inserts of bikini-clad beauties and steamy sex on a beach? _________________ ____________

Years ago, Cinefex magazine had a short piece on the movie. It was suppose to launch a movie studio in Florida. They had constructed the studio, along with a three square block Martin surface set with spaceship. Being Florida, a hurricane swept through an obliterated EVERYTHING!
But they were committed, and the movie got made, with a much lower budget. Or maybe, it was with what was left of the budget.

The hurricane might have wiped out the "good" movie this could have been, but the ill-fated studio still managed to make a film that's by no means dull!
The film's score is amusing all by itself, with a title theme comprised of a romantic song by a female vocalist, lots of rock n' roll music during the Earth scenes, and wacky electronic sounds for the scenes on Mars.
And check out the white, skin-tight spacesuits which allow Nick Adams and Darren McGavin to show off their trim physiques! Proof positive that "cotton breaths", even on Mars!
The helmets appear to be original designs (not borrowed from another movie or purchased from military surplus). They look great . . . until you notice that the have an opening beneath the chin.
The movie is fun to watch if you can get through the dull voyage to Mars during the first 45 minutes and endure the horrible rock music in space. The Youtube video is 4:3 and obviously from a 16mm print that's been run quite a few times.
Enjoy!

According to the Director's son who worked on the movie, space helmets were made for the costumes. Unfortunately, when Darren McGavin tried on the helmet, he found it too constricting on a prominent feature on his face, and showed his dissatisfaction by smashing the helmet against a wall. They had to start filming that day, and the motorcycle helmets were literally a last minute solution.

Normally I'd say something like, "Enjoy the trailer for this movie", but that might be asking a bit too much in this case.
And if you're still curious about this movie after watching the trailer, here's an eleven minute video entitled "highlights". You've been warned . . .

There were two guns used in the movie. One was a High Standard M10A or M10B shotgun. The second was the one in the movie poster, which was a WAMMO! air blaster, with a large tube and barrel attached over the air blaster muzzle.
