I don't see a topic for this, so I figured I'd add it.
I just stumbled into this 1975 Soviet SF film on YouTube, at the link below. It has English subtitles, but they're not very good, so the story is rather hard to follow, especially with the intercuts of flashbacks of the children back on Earth and whatnot.
Real life cosmonaut Alexey Leonov has a cameo.
Don't scrub to the ending because it'll ruin it.

What sets The Great Space Voyage apart, however, is its explicit propaganda content: if you set your mind to something and persist at it, the film solemnly and sincerely reminds us, you can succeed no matter what the difficulty. (Not too dissimilar from North American-style self-empowerment!) Make sure to stick around for the end, where an actual Russian cosmonaut is on hand to deliver an inspirational message of encouragement. |

I wondered what the IMDB members thought of this movie, and I found a well-written review that recommends it in a very left-handed way and warns the viewer to beware of certain aspects of the film.
For example, the review starts with this statement. "Perhaps if you understand Russian this film makes some degree of sense (I doubt it), but the subtitled English version will leave your head spinning."
A quick look at the Youtube video indicates that the film has a handsome visual look. But I don't care for subtitles even when they're well done (I don't read very fast, so it's hard to keep up). 
None the less, if Maurice says it's worth a look, I'll give it a shot.

I hope you don't mind, Maurice, but I changed the title of the thread when I discovered that there are three titles for this movie, based on the Russian name, Bolshoe kosmicheskoe puteshestvie, and wanted to find out which one was official.
As you noted in your initial post, YouTube calls it The Big Space Journey.
But the poster on the left above calls it The Great Space Journey.
I finally found it on IMDB, which calls it The Big Space Travel, which is also how the website which provided the poster on the right above translated it.
Google's Russian-to-English function says the title means Big Space Travel, so I guess IMDB wins the office pool — despite the fact that it's the least appealing of the three! 
I guess is sounds snazzier in Russian . . .
