Why We're Just Now Getting the 1960s Batman TV Show on DVD

...Stacks didn't mind, though. His struggle with DC launched a mission that would help clear the way for a more highly prized bit of Bat-ephemera: full, commercial-free, non-bootlegged DVD and Blu-ray collections of the entire 1960s Batman series — something held up for years by rights disputes between the show's many parents.

"Everyone who's a fan of the show wanted it on home video," says Stacks. "But we never thought we'd see it this century."

The wait is over. Next week, Batman hits retail in all its kitsch-laden glory just in time for the holidays. After decades of rumors, corporate wrangling, and the foresight of an actor who recorded his commentary early in case he dropped dead before the collection materialized, the series finally escapes legal purgatory. But don't give much credit to corporate lawyers. Instead, it's due to a tireless, clever campaign by a small band of fans that started when Stacks started digging into the show's archived paper trail.

"That's when one fat guy in Florida shook the whole thing up," he says.....

I met Yvonne Craig and got her autograph at her very first fan convention appearance in Canada in 2013.

I wonder if, sadly, it was her last as well. That convention was in late March of 2013. According to a message from her family, Yvonne had been undergoing treatment for "Two plus years". She must have started treatment very soon after I saw her.

I must add a big THANK GOD that I went to that convention. I almost talked myself out of it. I had recently been diagnosed with cancer myself and was coming up with various excuses to stay home. If I had not gone to the convention and talked to her, I would be kicking myself around the block.

Apparently Batman had a cabin cruiser — for stake-outs, perhaps. He ha left it in our parking lot and is trying to get rid of it.

(Trailer IS included.)

I figure he and Robin sat in it drinking beer and pretending to fish, and he finally got too big for the utility belt. Very Happy

The DVD/blu-ray set was quite a saga - a couple of friends and I each pre-ordered the limited edition box set from Amazon UK. It was advertised as having "Ultraviolet" too, meaning a code would be included for copies one could download over the internet, useful for watching on tablets or phones etc - and the box set finally arrived without that. We each complained and got a partial refund... and then after a while we got sent our Ultraviolet codes too! Also Amazon, or Warner Bros Home Entertainment Group, had to send us replacement discs for Disc 1 Season 1 and Disc 2 Season 2 as the originals left out a scene or two...

The unlimited edition is a lot cheaper by now of course, but it probably doesn't have a Hot Wheels replica Batmobile, or a button on the side to press for a few bars of the theme tune!

After It Started With A Kiss (1959) M-G-M let the Ford Lincoln Futura go to pot. I'm very glad that George Barris rescued it!

I just added the post below to Pow's comment on the Adventures of Superman thread and thought it should go here as well.

Interesting that L.A. shone the image of the Bat Signal upon the town hall building honoring the passing of Adam West, that also served as the Daily Planet on the AOS.

My God, this is spectacular! And look at the crowd. Amazing!

I was on the verge of suggesting that the logo wasn't projected, it was a hanging banner, because I couldn't figure out how the logo could have been projected such a great distance.

But the picture below proves that it was. This was a wonderful tribute, and I salute the folks who organized it.
