Indeed, yes! I applaud the imagination of the writers for thinking of the clever (and funny) scene in which the friendly town physician rushes into the maternity ward waiting room and rounds up a posse composed of genuine he-men American males!
And since a dog is a he-man's best friend, those German Shepherds gave them pesky alien's what fer!
By gum, I just noticed I've neglected to add the trailer for this movie to this thread. My apologies, gentlemen!
To make up for it, here's the trailer (narrated by the great Art Gilmore).
Trivia note: When the lovely Miss Valerie Allen runs from the alien, the death ray FX that disintegrates her is absent, so she just begins to fall down towards the sidewalk!

Bud Brewster wrote: | Good point, Krel. But an IMDB item in the Goofs section points out this troubling idea.
The plot assumes that men who have recently had children have to be human, but they may have been possessed after the conception.
This movie is the perfect feature to watch on a rainy Sunday afternoon — which is what I'm doing right now!
Here's an interesting IMDB trivia item I found.
The dogs who attack the undisguised aliens near the end of the film were initially too scared to approach the costumed actors. The dogs were then acclimated to the presence of the suited actors - perhaps too well, for when the time came to shoot the scene of the dogs attacking the aliens, the dogs didn't attack the aliens, but jumped playfully around and on them instead.
The dogs were then trained to go for the "breathing tubes" on the alien costumes. Apparently, the actors playing the aliens had to guide the dogs to attack the "breathing tubes."
And this poster is pretty good.

I love this movie! I have it as a DVD and sadly it has no special features! But in pics I've seen online it looks like the golf mouthed aliens are wearing grey or black denims, where as in the film it looks like they are naked!!!

Indeed yes! The maternity ward moment is one of the best examples of the wonderful imagination this film displays. And those scenes of the dogs crawling along the ground like combat veterans and attacking the aliens is a moment that makes me proud to be an American! _________________ ____________

I Married a Monster From Outer Space
IMARRIEDAMONSTERFROMOUTERSPACE-1I Married a Monster From Outer Space I-married-a-monster This was pretty offbeat for fifties Sci-Fi: male aliens, whose own females have died out, need to figure out a way to mate with Earthwomen and continue the line. Yow!

The title and description sound ultra-cheesy, but it's a fairly serious effort, with shades of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). My favorite scene is when a few of the disguised aliens sit in a bar trying to figure the next step in their quiet invasion and the bartender picks a fight over their lack of enthusiasm for his liquor. There are some eerie thrills, including the conclusion, where a minor battle is waged after the jig is up.
This should be remade as a classy 'A'-list Sci-Fi thriller, stressing the awkward & strange relationship between wife and alien husband.
Oh, I guess that's been done to some degree — there was a Sci-Fi film called The Astronaut's Wife, starring Johnny Depp & Charlize Theron, released a few years ago.
BoG's Score: 7 out of 10
Tom Tryon, the lead, became a writer later of such novels as 'The Other' (horror), after becoming dissatisfied with the Hollywood career (notably after his experience on The Cardinal in '63). The Other was itself made into a strange horror/thriller film in the early seventies. By all accounts, Tryon was gay, a surprise to me considering his rugged, 6' 3" looks & build. I suppose it's not that great of a shock nowadays, but I relate to my parents now as to when they found out that Rock Hudson was gay.

Tom Tryon did get married, just the once to a stockbroker's daughter in the mid fifties. Started a relationship with a guy from the Chorus Line show and eventually finished up with a gay porn star and died from stomach cancer in 1991!

That's a tragic tale, JB. I wondered if I could find a few upbeat things to share about Tom, so I looked up his IMDB biography, and I hit pay dirt!
Here's an excerpt.
________________________________
Sci-fi fans will remember Tryon in what is now considered one of the more literate (although you couldn't tell by its crackpot title) sci-fi films of the era, I Married a Monster from Outer Space (1958).
Tryon worked steadily in television and films during this period. His big break was supposed to be Otto Preminger's The Cardinal (1963), but the film turned out to be one of the major flops of the 1960s.
Tryon's acting career was waning (he wasn't happy with it, anyway), and one day he saw the horror film Rosemary's Baby (1968) in a theater. It inspired him to write his own horror novel, and in 1971 The Other was published and became an almost instant best-seller. It was made into a movie in 1972, with Tryon writing and producing, and it became a huge hit.
He left acting to concentrate solely on writing, and became a very successful novelist. In 1978 his book "Crowned Heads" was the basis for the Billy Wilder film Fedora (1978), and a successful miniseries, The Dark Secret of Harvest Home (1978), with Bette Davis, was made from his novel "Harvest Home".
Tryon said that he got much more satisfaction (and made a lot more money) from his writing than he ever did from his acting.

Always enjoyed Tom's acting, especially as Texas John Slaughter in the Disney TV miniseries.
Read that Otto Preminger was so brutal to him on both "The Cardinal and "In Harms Way'' that it influenced Tryon making the decision to retire from acting to become an author.
He also did another sci~fi movie, "Moon Pilot'' which was also for Disney.
Author Bill Warren rated MP highly in his well done book about sci~fi films, "Keep Watching the Skies!"
I saw MP some years ago and found it rather dull & slow. |

I checked the video below to be sure I was remembering the scene accurately.
One of the interesting things about the aliens is the weird glow that surrounds them, and I think it was supposed to be a force field that protected them. Perhaps it reacted to any metal object, such as a knife, a club, or even bullets.
But the heroic German Shepherd wasn't affected by the force field, and the dog ripped loose one of the fluid-filled tubes between the head and the body. That's what killed the alien.

Steve, my friend, your comment is brilliant in it's simplicity!
Titles can indeed make-or-break a movie! As much as I love The Day the Earth Stood Still, I've always felt the title was bit less impressive than the movie itself. The "Earth" didn't stand still, just all the stuff powered by electricity.
So, what would I have called that movie? Maybe something simple like A Man from the Stars.
(Okay, that's not great, but I'm open to suggestions. )
But what should they have named the movie this thread is about? What title would have suited the movie and encouraged the public to come see it?
I think it should be something simple, with a subtle sexual reference and a few overt sci-fi terms. How 'bout —
The Alien Conquest of Earth
Okay, again its not great, but as I said . . . any suggestions, folks? _________________ ____________

IMDB has 5 trivia items for this movie. Here’s a few of the ones I found the most interesting, in the blue text.
________________________________
~ The title theme by Nathan Van Cleave is a combination of his theme from Conquest of Space and other musical elements from that movie, skillfully blended.
Note from me: The first time I saw his movie on TV i recognize the music from Conquest of Space.
~ The dogs who attack the undisguised aliens near the end of the film were initially too scared to approach the costumed actors.
The dogs were then acclimated to the presence of the suited actors — perhaps too well, for when the time came to shoot the scene of the dogs attacking the aliens, the dogs didn't attack the aliens, they jumped playfully on them instead.
The dogs were then trained to go for the "breathing tubes" on the alien costumes. Apparently, the actors playing the aliens had to guide the dogs to attack the "breathing tubes."
Note from me: Proof positive that dogs and not only man's best friend by aliens' best friend too!
~ Near the end of the film, the aliens' hand weapon looks remarkably like the one the Klingons used on the original Star Trek: The Original Series (1966), with a shorter barrel.
Note from me: And this is proof positive that these aliens were Klingon allies who bought all their weapons at Kahless-Mart! _________________ ____________

A great gallery of images, Miss Eadie!
The fact that we only see the ship's hatch, with the rest supposedly hidden by shrubs, is disappointing. But that shot of the fleet leaving Earth after the aliens were defeated is the last scene in the movie, and it sort of makes up for the lack a "full spaceship" during the movie. _________________ ____________
