In today's Featured Threads I suggested that Hollywood should make a movie called Aquamen Meets Captain Nemo.

After numerous squid incidents over the years
Captain Nemo posted this sign aboard the Nautilus:

Go to your Hallmark store. They had a new 65th anniversary of Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Nautilus ornament!
How did we miss this? _________________ ____________

Not original to Hallmark. That Christmas ornament was sold in the Disney stores last year.

Thinking Outside the "Plot"!
________________________________
~ A Question for the Members: Captain Nemo was concerned that if his technology ever fell into the handS of the war-like nations of the world, it would cause horrible repercussions for mankind!
Was he right?
~ My Theory: Obviously, he was. Obviously it did. Obvious Jules Verne was way ahead of is time . . .
But if he had given his technology to America during that early age, would it have benefited the world — or harmed it — or simply accelerated the arms race we actually experienced?
(I just tossed this out to encourage a discussion. I hope we get one.) _________________ ____________

The United States would utilize Captain Nemo's advanced technology for its own corrupt purposes.
We have a horrific history of how we've dealt with other countries.
As noble as the Declaration of Independence is as a document of our fundamental principles we also allowed human slavery.
We held a gun to the head of Hawaii's queen and told her your nation is now ours.
Few wars that the US have entered in all its history were based upon our nation's safety and defense. It was based on greed, corruption, expanding our power to dominate other nations.
The politicians and military---with help from the media---lied to the American public in order to justify our perpetual wars.
The Pentagon presented their plans for Operation North Woods to President Kennedy in order to start a war with Cuba.
Covertly, the military would proceed to bomb designated targets throughout the US with possible loss of human life. It would then place the blame on Cuban terrorists which would rile up the American citizens who would clamor for war with Cuba.
And these are a FEW of the examples of our countries illicit and ruthless operations in the world. Hell, American politicians aren't any better with their own people.
We love to present our country as the honorable Boy Scout to our citizens and the rest of the world. History, truthful history, tells a far different story.
There is a powerful moment from "The Newsroom" TV series on Youtube that encapsulates my feelings. It is under America isn't the greatest nation in the world.
If you have not viewed this before, Bud, please do. You won't be disappointed.

I saw it in 2012 and thought both the series and Jeff Daniels was terrific.
Thanks for the post. By God, I'm moving to Canada. (They've also handled the pandemic much better than we have.) _________________ ____________

I've watched that incredibly powerful scene from "The Newsroom" where Jeff Daniels delivers that searing speech about America no longer being "The greatest country in the world" numerous times.
Talk about compelling to watch!
Aaron Sorkin writes like few others can and continues to awe me with his talent.
I never missed an episode of his "The West Wing."

I've streamed my way through The West Wing twice. Martin Sheen is so darn "presidential" that I even like the "Single Care" commercials he's in!
Here's the scene mentioned earlier. It is indeed a real condemnation of anyone who wants to brag about America without knowing the facts.
The Newsroom - America is not the greatest country in the world
