Fans of young Jane Fonda's pretty face and well-displayed figure might enjoy this French-comic-strip-turned-movie.

Admittedly some of her costumes are extremely sexy, but the sets and props are both poorly designed and flimsily constructed, the special effects are amateurish, the characters are two-dimensional one-line jokes, and the plot is a lot of murky nonsense about energy forces that respond to sexual stimulation.

Director Roger Vadim works hard to make the film look like a wildly imaginative comedy, but Dino De Laurentiis did a much better job in 1980 with "Flash Gordon", using lavish sets and costumes, and giving us dialogue that was at least occasionally funny.

In 1968 Jane's strip tease during the title work was considered risque stuff, but today . . . ZZZZZZZZ. The screenplay is credited to eight separate writers, including Terry Southern and director Vadim.

The problem was that it was "inspired" by a French adult comic that was unsuitable for General audiences.

Someone got sent off to sleep by the opening credits? I find that hard to believe. A very entertaining movie, and I love the music too. The fact that Duran Duran originated here (as a name, not the actual rock band that adopted it) has to mean something, and, well, Jane Fonda in her prime, here and in other films like Cat Ballou, is impossible to resist... if one still has a pulse, that is! Wink

I found those thumbnails in the middle on a site offering a download of the movie, which probably wouldn't be an entirely legal way to get it. I've got the proper dvd, of course, with the Boris Vallejo cover... Very Happy

Well hell, I guess I was a bit hard on the movie. (No pun intended . . . )

I guess my reaction was skewed by a strong desire to see something either more serious or more funny. This one sort of split the difference, and left my feeling unsatisfied. (No pun intended . . . )

But there's no denying that Miss Fonda is mesmerizing, especially in those outfits. Perhaps if the movie hadn't presented such wacky ideas with a completely straight face, it would have done better, and then a sequel would have allowed us to see more of the lovely Jane. (No pun int ---- oh, heck, who am I kiddin'? Shocked

)

In retrospect I've developed a great deal of admiration for the early Jane Fonda. She's one of those people who has reinvented herself many times through her life, but in the 1960s she characterized a combination of beauty and intelligence that I think paved the way for the future of actresses and women in general.

It's kind of ironic that today she's best known for this piece of s#!t Dino De Laurentiis film. Without a doubt the only reason anyone remembers it at all is because Jane elevated it substantially as she did with most every film in which she appeared.

Does anyone know if there were two versions of this movie. Back in the late 70s, early 80s I saw a collected version of the comics in a record store. There was also a section on the movie, and there was another actor in David Hemmings role, and at least one other that was different than the version I have seen. I would have bought the book, but it was in horrible condition.
