"TOG" March 1, 1968 is a second season episode of the series. I sincerely doubt this one has ever made any Trek fan's Top 10 List of great episodes.
The reason I am writing about it now is that I was researching the history of View-Master. V-M consisted of 3 reels with 7 3D-like photos on each reel. They had a number of TV shows episodes for their product. Yep, astonishingly the only Star Trek episode V-M featured was "TOG." Hardly a highpoint for the series.
Why not "The Doomsday Machine," "The Immunity Syndrome," "Where No Man Has Gone Before," as V-M reels? They are visual, exciting, and terrific stories. Not sure who decided that of all the episodes of Star Trek available, this was the one they selected? They either knew little about the show, or just didn't care all that much. |
