This one is a winner. I don't know what to praise more -- Robert Downey Jr. performance as Tony Stark or the amazing design of that Iron Man suit.
Robert is totally convincing as a man so brilliant he can create something like that suit, and so quirky he's crazy enough to wear it. Gwyneth Paltrow is charming as the worried and devoted assistant/girlfriend.
The final battle is good, but in the special features on the DVD there seems to be the suggestions that the battle was originally planned to end when Iron Man knocked the big suit worn by Jeff Bridges into the bus and it blew up -- an event that happened well before for the actual climax.
Weird.

I don't know how much of Robert Downey Jr.'s lines are as-written and how much is ad lib, but either way, he delivers with aplomb. I'm convinced that I'll be totally dissatisfied with any other actor if the role is ever recast.

Recast Tony Stark?! The fans would crucify the producers on the "H" in the Hollywood sign for all Los Angles to see if they did that!
I just hope Robert doesn't get tired of the role. Or too old to play it. He was 50 in April of this year, and he has a history of substance abuse. Sometime actors don't handle the challenge of aging very well, and gettin' zonked on something-or-other is one way of dodging the unpleasantness of getting old, fat, ugly, and (worst of all) unpopular.
Let's hope Mr. Downey doesn't fall back into old habits.
