_______________
With six science fiction movies to his credit and two appearances on sci-fi television series, Robert Clarke solidly established himself as . . . well, as a kind of poor man's Richard Carlson. But in all fairness Mr. Clarke does manage to hold his head up through some downright cheesy productions.
The best of his films is probably "Beyond the Time Barrier", a likable little film which director Edgar J. Ulmer squeezed out of a pretty skimpy budget.
The list of Mr. Clarke's accomplishments includes —
The Astounding She-Monster
Beyond the Time Barrier
Captive Women
The Hideous Sun Demon (which he directed)
The Incredible Petrified World
The Man from Planet X
Science Fiction Theatre (TV Series)
-- Spider Inc. (1955)
Men Into Space (TV Series)
-- Burnout (1959)

A life long sci-fi fan, Robert often sunk his own money into his and others films. _________________ Common Sense ISN'T Common |

Several sources have reported that he never made much money on his films, and sometimes he even lost money on the deals.
That's sad, because they're all enjoyable, and Beyond the Time Barrier is one of my favorites. The story is just begging for a sequel, and I've had fun concocting story lines for a follow-up film. _________________ ____________

I had a friend, Mel Cohen that back in the 80s, worked on a "Space Patrol" movie for Wade Williams. Robert Clarke, along with Ann Robinson was one of the stars, and the film never got released. Parts of the movie, along with some of Mr. Clarke's scenes were incorporated in a very bad movie named "Midnight Movie Massacre".

It must break the hearts of people like Clark and Robinson to have projects like that one fall apart after they've agreed to lend their talents and their well-respected names to them. _________________ ____________

Ann Robinson and Gene Barry were originally going to be semi-regulars in the War of the Worlds (Syndicated 1988 - 1990) TV series. But after reading the scripts Gene bowed out and Ann filmed only what virtually was only a cameo for the pilot. _________________ Common Sense ISN'T Common |
