Actually the tanks goes to Pye-rate — he's the one who found it.
Bob Hope was the second richest man in Hollywood having large real estate holding and also a large portion of Texaco stocks. He was also a sci-fi fan. Use Google images for his Palm Springs house.

Remember Flying 'A' gasoline with it's Pegasus symbol? That was almost completely owned by the richest man in Hollywood — Gene Autry. He was also owner of a television station (the original KTLA), several radio stations in Southern California, and the Los Angeles/California/Anaheim Angels Major League Baseball team from 1961 to 1997. He is still remembered for his Christmas holiday songs, Here Comes Santa Claus, which he wrote, Frosty the Snowman, Up On the Roof-Top and his biggest hit, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".
Also the the originator of the Hollywood Christmas Parade.

All I remember about Flying A's logo is a winged letter "A". The Pegasus logo belonged to Mobil Oil.

The funny thing is, Gene Autry didn't want to record RTRNR, he did it to please his wife, who liked the lyrics. I heard an interview once, where he said that he got the idea for "Here Comes Santa Clause" from watching the Hollywood Christmas Parade. I didn't know that he originated the parade though.
My Dad loved his version of Rudolph, he said it was the only one worth listening to. I feel the same way about Burl Ives and "Holly Jolly Christmas". For such a mean man, he sure could sound jolly.
But, to get back on topic. Does anyone know if the car became part of the Bob Hope estate, or did he sell it off years before? It is a wonderful looking car from a time when many movie stars drove customized automobiles.

To each his own. Frankly, I think it's ugly and ungainly looking. And the fit and finish on the bodywork -- well, judge for yourself.

Agreed, but, you know, I think it kind of resembles Bob Hope, though. Maybe it's just me.

Scotspen, you got me. I like the way car looks when viewed from an angle, but in profile it's a mess! It looks like a cartoon exaggeration of fancy car — a two-seater, convertible stretch limo! 
When I shortened the ridiculous hood by a few feet it looks a little better, but it still isn't as appealing as it is in the angled shots that hide the silly proportions.
