There have been sf films worthy of academy awards made, including what they like in Hollywood, a film being colossal. Walt Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was such a film. I don't know whether it won awards or not, because I don't follow the academy awards, but it seems likely that it at least got a nomination. The Wizard of Oz seems like it placed in a winner's category; it had some science in it. Moonraker was likely to have been noticed. The War of the Worlds probably didn't have what Hollywood was looking for. Peter Pan scored big as a fantasy; it had a bit of scientific spirit to it, too. _________________ How do you do, folks? I sure am glad to see y'alls. |

Most genre films have acquired only technical awards (Sound, make-up, special effects etc.)
Some have received best picture nominations. This years inclusion of ARRIVAL for example.
The only Best Picture win as I recall was for Peter Jackson's RETURN OF THE KING from the LOTR series. |
