First picture of Connie Niesen as Queen Hippolyta.
(Most pronounce this "hip-PAUL-t-it-tah". The actual ancient Greek pronunciation makes more sense: "hippo-"[as in hippopotamus] "LEE-ta": Lyta of the Horse).
"Paradise Island" is currently referred to as Themyscira named after the mythological city which was the capital of the Amazon tribe in Greek mythology. It corresponds to the island of Thera (Santorini) before the volcanic explosion!
Movie to be released on June 23, 2017. _________________ Common Sense ISN'T Common |

Robin Wright looks rather different from her House of Cards character there. I wonder how much time the movie will spend on Paradise Island? Man of Steel spent rather too long on Krypton, for sure...
Here's an Alex Ross shot of Wonder Woman on Themyscira - a great image, I have been known to use it as my computer's desktop...

Yeah, with clips from a couple earlier movies, mainly Wrath of the Titans. And the beast looked like it was from Blade III. _________________ ...or not...

I saw this movie last Friday — it was very good and the lead female is very sensual and alluring.
Great departure for the usual hackneyed Superhero-transfreed-to-the-big-screen approach. |

I went along on Friday too, and was impressed. Paradise Island looks good - we start off with a young Diana watching the amazons train and wishing she was allowed to join in, but we aren't left Waiting for Gadot too long. And then allied spy Steve Trevor, escaping from the Germans, crashes into the sea just offshore, and Diana dives off the cliff and saves him.
Interesting that they moved things back to World War I - though we do get a tiny present-day scene when Diana, working at the Louvre, receives a package from a Mr Bruce Wayne, containing an old photograph of her, Steve, and the rest of their team, leading her to reminisce and flash back to her origins. The WWI era is well and lavishly caught... long-time Wonder Woman fans should notice her reaction to her first taste of ice cream.
I guess it's too early to go into details of what happens in war-torn France, or how the final confrontations go, but I can at least mention that there wasn't a post-credits sequence. I guess the trailer for the JLA movie screened beforehand does that job! Strangely (and customs may be different in the USA), perhaps due to the length of the movie, we weren't treated to any advertisements before the main feature, just movie trailers, which included Spider-Man: Homecoming. The 3D worked well... not that I'd have gone out of my way to pay the extra for that, but the time was convenient. Gal Gadot made a great Wonder Woman - what a Gal! |
