I do remember the Gold Key comic more than the show.
It was also a comic strip in the UK.

I was only 3 when the show started, so I have vague memories of the show, but I did have the REMCO toy Supercar. You would put a plastic disc in the back, and it would move a pattern. Different discs, different patterns.
I now have the Johnny Lightning Supercars. One with the wings retracted, and one with the wings extended.

Fun Facts } In order to sell the show to interested producers, a lavish brochure was created.
The Supercar was the most expensive part of the production.
It was seven feet long, three feet wide, and weighed in at fifty lbs.
The first 26-episodes were shot between September 1960 and May of 1961.
13-more episodes were filmed from October 1962 to January 1962. |

Do you know where the expensive prop is today? I hate it when great props simply disappear because they aren't appreciated! _________________ ____________

As a grade-schooler, I used to draw pictures of Supercar all the time. The most fun thing about drawing Supercar in crayon or colored pencil was the gaudy red, white, blue, and yellow paint job. The damn thing was tarted up like a circus wagon! |

The term 'Supermarionation' appeared for the first time on the end title credits of the last 13 episodes of Supercar.
Supermarionation describes all of the sophisticated puppetry techniques employed by the AP (Gerry Anderson/Arthur Provis) Films/Century 21 production teams.
This included: lips that move in synchronization with speech by feeding electronic pulses converted from the recorded dialogue track down the control wires to solenoids inside the puppets' heads; interchangeable puppet heads with a variety of different expressions; control wires painted to match the background to render them almost invisible and, later, wire-free under-control puppets combined with the full range of film production facilities normally employed in live-action filming, including 35 mm Amiflex film cameras (with Pye industrial cameras in place of the optical viewer), back-projection, front-projection, location filming, state-of-the-art visual effects and full orchestral music scores.
The Complete Gerry Anderson by Chris Bentley. |

I've love to be a guest of the production crew for this series or any of the other productions done by Films/Century 21 and watch all the hard work and creativity that when into these shows.
I'm sure I'd be amazed by the imagination and ingenuity that went into each episode. _________________ ____________
