Looking forward to seeing this one. Always liked A-M & the Wasp. Characters that can reduce themselves in size were always fun, such as DC's The Atom. And movies like Dr.Cyclops and Fantastic Voyage.
I was disappointed that both Hank & Jan were not in the Avengers movies. They are founding members in the Marvel Comics. Black Widow & Hawkeye were substituted in their place. Mistake.
Hope they will connect with the Avengers in future sequels. |

I bought this one sight-unseen, and I thought it was pretty good, but I wasn't exactly overwhelmed. Anybody else feel that way? _________________ ____________

I was more on the "just okay" side of not-overwhelmed. It may have been a result of superhero overkill. _________________ ...or not...

IMDB offers 150 trivia items for this lively little movie, so I selected a small sampling just to give you folks a tiny taste of what the items were like.
Don't thank me, folks. It was the least I could do!

When Paul Rudd told his nine-year-old son he was going to be Ant-Man, his son said, "Wow, I can't wait to see how stupid that'll be."
A short note from me: As a parent, I don't think a son should belittle his father!
Michael Douglas celebrated his 70th birthday on set. As an homage to his on-screen character and to celebrate the milestone, the crew presented him with a birthday cake decorated in icing with ants crawling over a film reel.
A short note from me: In just about a year I'll be turning 70 myself. I don't think I'd like a cake like the one described above. Trust me, getting old is no "picnic"!
The shrunken down scenes feature a great deal of dust mites, which was a deliberate move by the VFX artists to emphasize an insect's point of view (they see the world in greater detail than a human does).
A short note from me: Okay, sure, I get that . . . but we're better at getting the big picture!
Filmed in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, rather than the usual 2.35:1 for most Marvel films, to resemble the short stature of the title character
A short note from me: It's interesting that the producers chose to reduce the aspect ratio.
On the day that they filmed the sequence of Cross shrinking a lamb, when they broke for lunch, the caterer just so happened to serve lamb chops. The cast and crew claimed it was an awkward meal.
A short note from me: That's the kind of experience that can make a person feel small!

A short note from me: Now THAT is just a wee bit weird!
Stan Lee as the bartender at the end of the movie.
A short note from me: Good old Stan. I love the way they always give him a brief cameo! _________________ ____________

The sequel, titled Ant-Man and the Wasp, is scheduled to be released on July 6, 2018.
That's actually a fan-made poster by arkhamnatic, but it looks pretty cool. With Edgar Wright's participation in the first movie's creation, before "creative differences" reared their ugly heads, I can almost imagine Simon Pegg as the diminutive hero... |

Good character development and the manner by which the "human" side of protagonists are revealed thanks to several of the leads. |

I had to laugh at one scene. A turbine engine helicopter lands, and it is making a tweeting sound while ideling. There is only one helicopter that makes that sound, a Bell 47. It makes that sound because it uses leather drive belts.
That guy that was able to shoot a flying ant out of the air with a pistol, is a very impressive marksman.

Orzel-w's pet peeve is when the sound man in a movie or TV series uses the sound of a pump shotgun being chambered off screen to remind the audience that a guy nearby is holding a shotgun . . . even when it's a double barrel shotgun.
He heard this happen in an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and ruined the episode for him.
And of course we all know that car tires on dirt roads squeal during hard turns just like on pavement. (Right . . . ) _________________ ____________

The Pocket Rocket.
Given the production problems and the long gestation period, Ant-Man is arguably far better than it had right to be. Unsurprisingly with a Marvel Super Hero film, the critical reactions have been mixed, but given it's not as gargantuan as most Marvel pics it proves to have a big entertaining heart. A pic cunningly viewing the Marvel Universe from a different angle, whilst also not over egging the pudding.
The effects work is impressive, the origin story narrative engrossing and with it carrying a lightness of touch, and there's a very enjoyable cast enthusiastically buying into the comic book frivolity. Sure, some of it's just plain daft, our hero's powers are hardly blunderbuss stuff, while the family melodramas bubbling away feel tired, but come the glorious finale, pandering to the child in us all, it's another Marvel winner readying itself for further adventures of Ant-Man. 7.5/10 _________________ The quality of mercy is not strnen. |

I really enjoyed both of the ANT-MAN movies, partly for the more domestic scope of the plot, partly for the great characters, and also partly for the "setup" to the galactic cosmic scope leading up the ENDGAME. _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |
