Looks like a lot of power outages. Bud is quite a bit inland, so he probably won't get ocean surges, but it also looks like heavy rains and wind could affect him.
Hope you weather the storm! _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |

Back in Monday's Featured Threads I posted this map of the predicted hurricane track. Things didn't look too good for old Bud . . .
But the actual track took a left turn and headed south before turning back inland and finally making landfall last night.
The predictions now take the majority of the hurricane down below Charlotte and then back to the north, while the wind and rain taper off significantly. This weekend we'll be skirting the northern edge of it while getting 10 to 16 inches of rain.
Here's the current predicted track.
I feel a little like a bull fighter watching el toro curve around him while he turns graceful with his scarlet cape . . . and secretly craps in his in tight toreador pants!

Thankfully, wind predictions for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday have gone down every day this week. Several days ago the wind predictions were for 38 mph on Saturday and 34 mph on Sunday. Today the predictions have gone down so much they now say 22-to-24 mph from today through next Friday!
That's the good news. But here's the bad news.
The rain forecast from 8:00 Saturday morning until 8:00 Monday morning says there's a 95% to 100% chance of rain for 48 hours straight. Obviously low-lying areas will be in danger of serious flooding, but I'm not close to any rivers or streams, so I think I'm okay.
In fact, we'll finally get enough rain to fill up the small duck pond near my townhome. It's been about a foot-and-a-half low for eight months!
However, when I looked out my back door today at the large field adjacent to my subdivision, the guy who owns that piece of land seems to be over-reacting.
Then again, maybe I should go over and help him get those critters aboard, just in case I need to ask him if there are any seats left on his boat. _________________ ____________

The biggest problem comes from the intense rain. Storm drains and sewers get more water than they can handle so the water builds up. Even sump pumps are useless because it just recycles the water out only to come back in through the drains.
Wear your "high water" pants, hip boots and keep your electronics up as high as you can. _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |

Okay, now you've made me nervous!
Maybe I better lean a bit towards the preparations of my over-cautious neighbor who's working on that Doctor Dolittle Love Boat!
I think I'll play it safe. Think this might be cautious enough?

Don't forget the really big zip-lock bag for your audio/video gear. _________________ ...or not...

Not to worry. I have a summer home just off the coast which is equipped for emergencies like this. I got the idea for the design from a movie I saw.
I forget which one it was.

Ah-ha! I thought my helicopter pilot looked familiar, but I couldn't remember where I'd seen her before!
