I saw this tonight with my son — who I took to see the first one 40 years ago.
First of all . . . I liked it! It won't please everyone. There are certainly many places where the action etc was fast and furious and could be confusing if you're not paying close attention.
I'd still give it a solid B+.
I won't go into spoiler details until it's been out long enough to do so. _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |

Trouble is the new films don't seem to have a believable coherent story unlike the originals penned by George Lucas! It's just bang, boom and more again...

George Lucas Cameo
https://www.slashfilm.com/george-lucas-star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-cameo/
Every new STAR WARS movie is chock full of cameos, but a cameo by the creator of the franchise himself, George Lucas, seems like one you couldn’t miss. But Lucas managed to sneak into STAR WARS Episode IX:: The Rise of Skywalker through a classic cinematic in-joke from the movie’s sound designers.
Lucas has kept his distance from the STAR WARS films for the past few years, not even attending the premiere for STAR WARS Episode IX:: The Rise of Skywalker. But that didn’t stop him from making a cameo in the final film of the Skywalker Saga.
According to ABC News, STAR WARS Episode IX:: The Rise of Skywalker sound designers David Acord and Matt Wood apparently hid a “special scream” in the film that is reported to be from a voice clip recorded by Lucas for 1973’s American Graffiti. The scream is “affectionately called ‘The George,'” and has supposedly been used in both Rogue One: A STAR WARS Story and STAR WARS Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.
It’s not 100% confirmed that this scream belongs to George Lucas, but if it is, it’s a fitting continuation of a cinematic in-joke involving the iconic “Wilhelm scream,” a stock scream that has been in use in Hollywood films since 1951 and which the original STAR WARS films helped popularize. The scream had been used in STAR WARS movies dating all the way back to STAR WARS Episode I: A New Hope in 1977, and it seems that the sound team have turned that long tradition into an inside joke that now pays homage to Lucas. The scream is being referred to as the STAR WARS “calling card” now.
While there’s not many chances for us to hear George Lucas in a STAR WARS movie for the next few years, as Lucasfilm puts their feature film output on hold, perhaps we’ll hear more of “The George” in other STAR WARS properties like The Mandalorian. It would certainly be something to hear it out of Baby Yoda’s mouth. _________________ ____________

This audio account refers to the Star Wars films in general, but also other franchises. The point is that "corporate culture" (e.g., Disney) has put creativity (what the new Star Wars movies could have been) in "critical condition:

The gist is that the culture stifles innovation, and this has turned recent Hollywood movies into bland retools with social agendas.
I gave my own points in the comments. |

I finally broke down and watched it today, and all I can say is...THANK GOD THIS DUMPSTER FIRE OF A MOVIE SERIES IS FINALLY OVER!
Farewell to Mary-Sue and GOOD RIDDANCE!
Movie makers need to learn that keeping the light levels dark, DOES NOT hide all the problems the movie has.
If they are going to continue doing Star Wars movies then they need to fire EVERYONE involved in these movies, then CAREFULLY pick new people. They've done five movies, and only one of them was decent, and even it had problem.
Give the franchise to the crew doing "The Mandalorian". So far, they're doing it right.
