Gee, it's too bad that quack is the only doctor in town, eh Brent?
What? He ISN'T the only doctor? Then I think I'd make him my former doctor -- and tell the jackass you don't have time for pompous assholes. _________________ ____________

At 4:20 AM PST a blockage occurred cutting of 82% of lung function AND blocking the esophagus.
Butch is in surgery and at this point only 50% survival rate is expected, although it should improve depending on what they find.
I'm trying to be brave. I'm crying while writing this.

Eadie, we are all so very sorry that Butch is going through this terrible ordeal and that his loved ones are feeling such awful anxiety.
Butch called me just a few days ago to tell me he'd sent an email to Bob Short (a close friend of Bill Malone) and he'd gotten a very interesting answer to a question he'd asked. Butch was excited about being able share this new information with the members of All Sci-Fi, but he didn't feel up to doing it himself, so asked me to pass it on.
Even though I could tell that Butch didn't feel well, it was great to hear the enthusiasm in his voice as we talked about the things we both care so much about.
I'll send you a PM with my phone number in case you need it. Please let us know the minute you find out something new. _________________ ____________

It turns out they stabilized him then sent him to the University of Washington Hospital, and a specialist from the School of Medicine performed the surgery. Surgery started ay 8:50 AM PST and ended at 11:35 AM PST. Butch is stable, but critical condition. The next day will tell if will survive.
I HOPE, I HOPE, I HOPE.
(I won't wish because Id 'never had a wish come true.) |

I jst came by to make sure Eadie had been able to give you guys the latest update (as she does on our Surface board, also). I see that you guys are up to date.
Let's send Butch, Eadie, and their family all the best thoughts we can muster. - Jstn |

Butch is stable and unconscious. I'm told by the nurse that his recovery chances are now 80%, but until he is conscious and responsive we won't know how he actually is.
We're keeping Eadie away from him for now for her own good. She is crying to much and that upsets the other patients and the nurses.
This last crying jag is because they shaved off his Santa beard and his head AND his torso. He now looks like a body ready for autopsy but with color in the skin (not pale white)!
I'll keep everyone up-to-date. |

Well...rude doctors aside...I have faith in modern medicine.
My body hair is just starting to grow back after my surgery. I wondered why I got my chest hair shaved when they weren't operating anywhere near my chest. I later surmised it was likely a safety precaution incase they needed to get to my heart in a hurry.
But I did fine. This wasn't my first rodeo with the surgeon and these guys know what they are doing. They are a LOT smarter than me and I figure after those years in medical schools and residency, they usually get it right. |

Thanks Pye-Rate. I'll C&P your updates to our Surface board.
How are you related to Butch, btw? (Jst for reference) |

Dear Mr. Jstn;
Pye-rate is my real father (I call him Da), Butch is my Godfather (I call him dad), and Butch and Pye-rate are adopted step-brothers. When they were teenagers, Butch's mom was in the hospital after a car accident. She was divorced and it looked as if CPS would take him, his twin sister and his younger brother into their "care" and separate them (His older brother was married but had a criminal record, so was out; his older sister was married but lived in another state and could not be located). Butch's mom and Pye-rate's mom were life long friends, so Pye-rate's mom and dad adopted them. |

That was so interesting, Eadie. Thanks so much.
And thanks also for the "Mr Jstn" address. Such respect from youngsters is disappointingly rare these days.
From now on though, feel free to call me by the familiar "Jstn". You have definitely earned the right to speak to me as an equal. You have been a good friend to me and the others at SaveSurface.
I hope your "Dad" is doing better. Looking forward to the next update. |

Thank you, sir. But I was taught by Butch to be respectful at all times. Until HE tells me it's OK, I'll be set in my ways (one of my teachers thinks it's "quaint", another thinks it's a waste of time) as I've been taught that when manners go "out-the-window" that civilization is invariably doomed. (Meaning that it is in the midst of a major social change and that within a few years it will be so different from what you grew-up in as to make you wish for the "good-old-days"!) |

That and knowing how to use apostrophes properly will place you above 95% of the population.
(By the way, I seriously miss the good old days.) _________________ ...or not...

They are going to let him 'wake-up' today. I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I find out anything. |

Still groggy. Can't talk very well as a small portion of one of his vocal cords is paralyzed.
I GET TO SEE HIM AFTER SCHOOL TODAY!

That's great news, Eadie. We know he's still feeling poorly, but he's making progress, and that's what counts.
Thanks for the updates. _________________ ____________
