This Ovaltine commercial is completely consistent with the inspirational attitude the Captain Midnight series itself is famous for!
Captain Midnight tells his young audience that someday they'll be doing important jobs, and all the scenes depicting these jobs show kids — not adults — doing them!
Just like the series itself, the kids watching the show are made to feel important and confident because they're treated like adults. I love it!
______________ 1955 OVALTINE COMMERCIAL
__________
The commercial below promotes both the chocolate drink and the free membership in the Secret Squadron.
Membership includes both a card and the decoder badge, allowing the kids to feel like they're truly part of Captain Midnight's worldwide support team, like the kids we see in the episodes who have the "pocket communicators", on which they can get messages from SQ-1 — Captain Midnight himself.

I hope I'm not the only one who has fond memories of these commercials! They promoted the series, they inspired the kids to help Captain Midnight, and they allowed their young audience to believe they were involved with their hero.
No other series succeeded in doing this.
And the star of the show frequently addressed the audience and told them how to be a part of his mission against "evil men everywhere!"
This series is amazing!

During the late 1980s when my two children (ages 6 and 9) were watching Captain Midnight episodes on VHS tape from Blockbuster Video, we drank lots of Ovaltine and had Kix Corn Cereal for breakfast several times a week!
We were loyal Secret Squadron Members!

The commercials below are prime examples of why I fell in love the Captain Midnight series, because they not only promoted the product which sponsored the show, Captain Midnight also encouraged all us loyal kids to get our free badges so we could decode the clues he gave us about our "next exciting mission".

The decoder badges (free with a proof-of-purchase mail in label) were a wonderful aspect of the this series. However, They didn't do as much with them as they could.
In addition to the code at the end of each episode which the badge allowed the kids to decode to learn about "next week's mission", some of the stories could have included a scene in which Captain Midnight sent a specific young Secret Squadron member a message in code had him or her decode it so they would assist Captain Midnight in his mission.
Even though the series couldn't sell "pocket communicators" to the kids so that could get messages from their hero, the decoder badges would make the kids in audience feel like they were "specially equipped", just like kids in the show.
Ah, well. Just a thought.
