I've always been an admirer of the great aviation stunt pilot Frank Tallman (April 17, 1919 ~ April 15, 1978) since I first learned about him from the work he did in one of my all time favorite movies: "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" (1963).
Frank piloted the Beechcraft Model 18 airplane in that awesome scene where it crashes through the Coca-Cola billboard.
Frank performed the stunt flying and was the flying supervisor on a number of films.
Sadly, Frank died while on a routine ferry flight in a twin-engine Piper Aztec on route from the Santa Monica Airport in California to Phoenix, AZ.
The weather had deteriorated with a low ceiling and rain.
Frank's plane struck the side of the Santiago Peak in the Santa Ana Mountains near Trabuco Canyon. R.I.P. |
