David, I swear this it the absolute best reply to any thread in All Sci-Fi's 16-year history which reveals a real-world version of a science fiction concept!
The amazing Sand Striker is a beautiful-but-deadly creature which has several similarities to the graboids! But it's differences are also amazing, making it just as fascinating as its fictional counter-part!
For example, note the four stripped antennae which this blind predator uses to search for passing prey, as well as the savage clamps which lock onto it's victims!
The Sand Striker's head sticks up from the sea floor — but its long, worm-like body is under the ground . . and it extends up to 12 feet!
As David said, this is indeed a real-world graboid, with all the savage abilities of the fictional creature to seize its prey and quickly pull it under the surface!
Its amazing!
Watch the video and you'll be a believer, too!

YouTube has several other videos of these undersea graboids at the link below. Science-minded members of All Sci-Fi are encouraged to enjoy them.

I re-read my description of the "swamp graboids" today and realized that this would be Next Generation of the Tremors franchise!
Consider what these creatures can do!
They can plow through the sandy soil of the American Midwest like torpedoes! So, if they can do that, then they could race through the sandy soil of Florida even faster!
And if that's the case, they could cruise through the murky swamps of the Everglades with effortless ease!
These deadly creatures would be the masters of the swamp lands — capable of devouring fish, manatees, sea turtles, and even alligators!
Absolutely nobody in Florida would be safe!
People who lived in the everglades would be fair game for these creatures! And even the people who lived miles from the edges of the swamps would be equally endangered!
In the middle 1960s, when I was about 16 years old, my family spent a weekend on a 3,000 acre cattle ranch in the Florida everglades. We were the guests of the ranch owner, who wanted to talk about a business deal with my Dad, who worked for Delta Air Lines.
During our pleasant visit, my sister and I went horseback riding with the teenage daughter of the land owner, and we rode for hours across the grassy expanse of the ranch.
The landscape dazzled me!
It was a flat grass-covered plain, all the way to the horizon — but dotted with "oasis" where tall trees sprouted up. We rode into a few of them and found ourselves in a shaded jungle, where pools of water sprang up to refresh these lush areas!
It was a breathtaking alien landscape . . . which included cattle and cowboys! A young boy's dream.
Naturally I quickly developed a crush on the redheaded teenage daughter of the ranch owner who took my sister and I out for a full day of horseback riding.
But to her I was just the hick kid from Georgia, the son of the Delta Air Lines employee her father had invited down to his Florida ranch for the weekend because he was trying to strike up a deal my father's employer.

Anyway, back to this thread's topic . . .
Just imagine the graboids in the everglades, feasting on the abundance of wildlife — which included fat cattle on ranches like the one shown above! _________________ ____________

The limestone geology of Florida, with it's miles of underwater caves and channels could help the Swamp Graboids.
Although kind of extreme, they could help with the python problem in the Everglades....
OH! New syfy channel movie, MEGA PYTHON VS. GRABOIDS!
Years ago, well decades, I saw most of a movie on TV where a UFO (I think) dropped a creature onto a beach that tunneled through the sand eating beach goers. I think that the Lifeguard was the one to battle the monster.

The last two "made for dvd" TREMORS movies also took us to different geologic areas.
One was centered in a glacial area with "snow graboids". The other was on a tropical island, so who knows what else could be in the works!
Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell (2018)
Filming commenced in late January 2017. The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray in May 2018.
Tremors: Shrieker Island (2020)
Gross confirmed that filming had wrapped. In August 2020, the film was known under the working title Island Fury until it was officially titled Tremors: Shrieker Island. The film was released direct-to-video on October 20, 2020. _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |

I never thought of FL as a particularly scenic state, Bud, but your description has changed my mind regarding your visit to that ranch.
I've always love horseback riding. Took lessons off-and-on over the years. I have a place I go for trail rides that is about an hour's ride south from me.
Liberty Stables is the name and it's run by a wonderful woman named Deb.
My favorite time of year to ride is autumn; hands down.
The gorgeous fall colors on the trees and bushes mixed with cool air always makes it memorable for me.
I think I might have been a cowboy in an earlier life.
Probably an outlaw with my luck.

Yeah, ya know it's true that you can get a rapport with your horse. Not all horses, of course, can be like women....When you get the right one it's like magic, with the wrong one it's an aggravating trip through hell!
Nothing beats a good ride! _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |

Nice example of a double entendre there, Tex! Yes sir, it's been quite a spell since this old cowpoke had a good ride. _________________ ____________

Do your homework, pardner! Cows ARE ladies! That's why farmers can milk 'em!
Cattle are guys! That's why they're raised for the beef. Just for the record, I don't "poke" the cattle either. To put in cowboy terms, "I don't ride THAT pony", as they say. _________________ ____________

Actually Bud, cattle encompasses all three. Cows, steers, and bulls. Steers and non dairy cows are the ones that make the journey to the butchers. But you usually keep most of the cows for breeding stock.
A tip: NEVER get between a cow and a fence. They will push you into it every time. It's never fun, and if it is a barbwire or electric fense . . . well, OUCH! Also, stay out of the herd when calves are present. Calves are cute, but cows are MEAN!

Well, ya got me, pardner.
As you've pointed out, all cows are also cattle — but not all cattle are cows. It depends on whether they provide the main dish for dinner . . . or just the beverage.
Thanks for the lecture on "animal husbandry".
However, because I've been single and celibate ever since my divorce in 2001, my "cow pokin'" days have long been over. _________________ ____________
