This was a hit CBS TV series from the 50s & hosted/narrated by Walter Cronkite.
It covered historical events as if CBS News existed at that time & was reporting it as news.
Actors portrayed real historical people. The camera would act as journalists & ask questions to these people who would in turn speak directly into the camera
The actors would also have scenes with other actors as they discussed whatever was going on.
It was a terrific show that taught history & made it interesting. YAT was revived as a Saturday morning TV show for a time in the 70s.
I'd love to see this series brought back. We've learned so much more about historical events of the past that this new info could be now included. |

I'm ashamed to admit that it took me six years to contribute to Pow's very interesting post — even though it's had 1,078 views!
YouTube has three episodes of the show, and they are impressive indeed.
Enjoy! _

With today's fantastic LED Wall visual effects, a new version of YAT could benefit tremendously.
The LED Wall could digitally create in great detail any era of world history as required by the scripts. |

I shouldn't have been surprised to learn that the picture quality of giant LED screens has gotten so sharp they can now be used in place green screens!
But I'll confess it was a forehead-slapping moment for me! _________________ ____________

I remain so darned impressed with the LED Wall's huge leap forward with visual effects technology since I first stumbled across that Youtube short documentary about how this groundbreaking technology was created during the shooting of The Mandalorian, Bud.
Historically speaking, FX advancements take place via motion pictures. They have the budget & shooting schedule to allow this to happen.
Television has always adapted movie FX breakthroughs to the small screen. When the initial price comes down and the equipment is available, it trickles down to TV productions.
This is in no way a judgement or criticism. It was just the way it was.
But with The Madalorian we're seeing quite a change in the development of visual effects. Not only the very tech itself, but that it arose from a television production, and not a film production.
That's a game changer in the field of visuals. Now we will see both films & television innovating FX concurrently. That's unheard of, because movies have always led.
Will movie budgets and schedules continue to lead in innovative FX? Sure.
Watch out though, movies!
TV visuals are not so far behind you anymore. In fact, every now & then they'll be walking ahead of you! |

I first heard of the LED wall when it was mentioned that they were using it on the first season of "The Orville".
On "The Mandalorian" They have a soundstage where the walls and ceiling are LED displays. They can do exterior, interior and even combine model work with live-action. If they need a sunset scene, they can hold the sunset as long as they need to, they are not at the mercy of nature.
