Bongopete gives us three more comments.
One is about an ambitious science fiction movie from the 1930s, another one is about an imaginative TV series from the 1950s, and a third one is about those unusual sci-fi movies from The Land of the Rising Sun.

Things to Come (1936)
I've always thought that TTC was a flawed film, rather stiff all around but with some really interesting visuals.
Some of my favorites are the young child playing with his drum while marching around while silhouettes of actual marching soldiers come up behind him.
The marvelous and timeless scene on Christmas of the family and the children playing, the Grandfather comments on how much toys have changed between when he was a boy and the toys his grandchild is playing with and he wonders how they will change in the future*.
The decaying body on the barbed wire signifying the passage of time. Obviously the WOW flying wings.
*This is really outside the area of this forum . . . but ARE toys still being made today for kids to actually PLAY with. Or are they all computer games? WAS the nadir of toys perhaps in the 1970s or 1980s?

Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection
]: In my opinion, the best of the three is 'The H-Man'. A rather atmospheric movie...not badly dubbed at all (though I find it a bit amusing that the dubbing is nice and clear but with a fake Japanese accent for all the characters).
'Battle in Outer Space' has some nice effects but as a kid, I remember that the scene we all loved to see was when the moonships pass the wreckage of the earlier destroyed space station, the effects include a couple of bodies that fly past along with the debris. We just thought that was SOOOOO cool!!!

Rocky Jones, Space Ranger
This was the only one of the several 50's tv shows that I watched. Didn't see them for years obviously until MST took aim . . . and they were wonderful for that as well!!!
Anyone remember an episode in which some ray or well...'thing' caused wood to disintegrate? I remember Vena and Bobby sitting back in the rear of the ship at Vena's console and the panel and controls start coming apart...and I remember thinking that this was a spaceship and had 'wood'? _________________ ____________
