I'll say one thing for our friend Pow, he certainly has eclectic taste in TV series!
In today's Featured Threads he sings the praises of a series about a submarine from the future, a series about the prehistoric past, and a series about a superhero who insists on being well dressed at all times!

SeaQuest DSV (1993-1996)
I'm currently watching the first season of SQ DSV on my recently ordered dvds whose quality is superb.
I remain awed at just how terrific this series was during its first season. Season's two and three would vary in quality and suffer a number of cast members exits from the show.
It makes me realize just how many of the terrific s~f TV shows we enjoyed & were fans of went through transformations as their respective seasons progressed — and how the show's went downhill over time.
ST:TOS and Sliders come immediately to my mind.
Creators of both shows ended up leaving due to clashes with their networks. Top writers would leave, cast members would depart, budgets slashed, less talented folks would arrive to run the show.
As much as I look forward to any s~f series I am a fan of go into later seasons after debuting with strong & exciting first seasons; I am also wary that behind-the-scene battles and changes may well demolish what was once a promising idea.

Land of the Lost (1974 - 1975)
Read Kathy Coleman's autobiography "Run, Holly, Run" written along with Steven Thompson & Dave Smitherman.
Interesting details about the "Land of the Lost" TV show on which she co~starred. However, her life after the end of the series was compelling as well as some serious highs & lows along the way.
Fortunately, she is doing well these days.

The Greatest American Hero (1981~1983)
Watched the pilot & first episode of TGA recently on Youtube.
Series holds up very nicely with the writing and the lead characters interactions & disagreements with one another as they attempt to navigate their lives after the aliens present the super suit.
The conflicts, action, humor, and plot of the week are all fun and entertaining.
Unfortunately, one issue of the show has not dated well at all and that is Ralph's flying.
I recall reading in Starlog Magazine back then that TGA was on the cutting edge with its flying sequences utilizing the FX technology of Magicam.
Didn't work out so well.
I realize that they all did the best they could given the technology at hand at that time. Add to that the budget & intense shooting schedule and you have some real mountains to climb for sure.
So I never mean to unfairly critique a lacking of a particular visual FX since we have to judge these visuals within the context it existed in that era.
However, we can't pretend to not notice the weaknesses either.
They have made amazing advances in humans flying FX since TGA. Heroes was stunning to behold with what they were able to achieve.
Same with the various CW superhero TV series. _________________ ____________
