I must say that, after reading the article, I'm a bit confused as to whether they are talking about a movie, or part of the Star Wars TV series they're preparing.
Maybe having "The Mandalorian" is a step across from the Boba Fett movie that was, until recently, being planned. You can keep the cool armour and profession, but without having a character whose end is already known! |

Going back to the previous page with Edge somehow made the post appear a second time - but I got rid of the second appearance by the use of a handy "x" option by the edit button. That just left the one appearance, when I skedaddled...
Um, something about wondering if they would have "Star Wars" in the actual TV title, as just "The Mandalorian" wouldn't scream "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" to the average listings-browser...? |

Just one of those things. As far as I was concerned, the duplicate only existed for about ten seconds, but I suppose it could have crept back on after I'd gone.
So we are saying that the long-awaited Star Wars television series will feature an entirely new character, who just bears a similar costume to a well-remembered but comparatively minor villain in the main saga? Well, if any franchise can manage this, I guess Star Wars is the one. |

Cool Stuff: Hot Toys Releasing a Life-Size Baby Yoda Figure
https://www.slashfilm.com/hot-toys-life-size-baby-yoda-figure/
Sideshow Collectibles already showed off their life-size Baby Yoda figure inspired by the character known as The Child in the Star Wars series The Mandalorian on Disney+. But the high quality collectible company is also distributing a life-size Baby Yoda figure from the upscale action figure creators at Hot Toys, and the first images of the little guy have just been released.
The hyper realistic and articulated collectible figure is meticulously crafted based on the appearance of the Child in The Mandalorian. Standing at approximately 36 cm [15"] tall, this collectible figure features an amazing likeness with riveting fine details, 2 pairs of interchangeable ears, movable head and arms, skillfully tailored outfit, a silver knob from the Razor Crest™ ship that the young alien loves to hold, a Mythosaur emblem necklace, and a variety of interchangeable hands to pose or hold the items allowing fans to recreate iconic moments from the highly acclaimed live-action series!
Unfortunately, the Hot Toys life-size Baby Yoda figure doesn’t come with that little incubator pictured in the above photo. It seems like a missed opportunity not to include that accessory as some kind of higher priced exclusive, but perhaps that would make the item too expensive. Plus, we’re sure there are some crafty fans out there who will just end up 3D printing one themselves or something like that.
Here’s everything that comes with the Hot Toys life-size Baby Yoda figure and who’s responsible for making it:
Hot Toys Life-Size Baby Yoda Figure
Life-Size Masterpiece Series
Authentic and detailed likeness of the Child in the live action-series The Mandalorian
Accurate size and proportion
Newly developed head sculpt with white fabric hair elements
Highly-detailed facial expression, detailed wrinkles, and skin texture
Body with specialize frame for wide range of articulations
Approximately 36cm [zpprox 15 inces] tall
Two (2) pairs of interchangeable ears including:
One (1) pair of relaxed ears
One (1) pair of downward pointing ears
Three (3) pairs of interchangeable arm with hands including:
One (1) pair of relaxed hands
One (1) pair of force-using hands
One (1) pair of accessory holding hands
Each piece of head sculpt is specially hand-painted
Costume:
One (1) beige-colored robe
Accessories:
One (1) Mythosaur emblem necklace with black leather strap
One (1) silver colored knob
Specially designed custom base with movie logo
Artists:
Head Sculpted by Ji Ho Lee
Figure Painted by JC. Hong
Figure Art Directed by JC. Hong
We’re not sure why yet another detailed Baby Yoda figure is being released without a little soup bowl, but whatever.
The Hot Toys life-size Baby Yoda figure will cost you $410, which is $60 more than the Sideshow Collectibles version, which honestly, I thought looked a tad better. However, there is a seven month payment plan you can sign up for to pay it off for $52.71 each month until it’s released sometime in the final quarter of 2020 or the first quarter of 2021. _________________ ____________

Temuera Morrison Returns to Play Boba Fett
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/mandalorian-finds-boba-fett-temuera-morrison-1293675
Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in 2002's Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, will appear in season two of the Disney+ Star Wars series.
Sources say Morrison will play Boba Fett, the famed bounty hunter who first appeared on the big screen in 1980's Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and who seemingly died in 1983's Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi as he fell into a sarlacc pit. Actor Jeremy Bulloch portrayed the character in the original trilogy.
Boba Fett is expected to play just a small role in season two of the series, after the character was teased in the season one episode The Gunslinger, when a mysterious figure sporting the bounty hunter's trademark spurs approached the apparently lifeless body of Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen).
In Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, one of the storylines revolved around the discovery of a secret army of clones. The clones were copies of Jango, and it was further revealed that fan favorite Boba Fett was actually a cloned Jango, being raised as his own son. Daniel Logan played a young version of Boba Fett in that film. While sources say Morrison is playing Boba Fett, it's always possible that something sneaky involving cloning is going on.
The Mandalorian season two is slated to bow in October on Disney+. It will feature other series newcomer including actor Michael Biehn and directors such as Alita: Battle Angel's Robert Rodriguez and Ant-Man's Peyton Reed.
Morrison appeared in 2018's Aquaman as Tom Curry, father to Jason Momoa's hero, and had a role in last year's Dora and the Lost City of Gold. He has kept his connection to Star Wars by voicing Jango and Boba Fett, as well as other characters, in various Star Wars video games. _________________ ____________

The show uses virtual sets, with the background consisting of LED walls:

That means the actors can now see the environment of their scene. |

Very nice for the actors to be able to now see and relate to an artificially created environment.
The YT post shows that these amazing LED walls do even more.
The artists can create a photorealistic 3 D background that moves strictly with the camera's field of view.
So now if the camera swings around and changes angles, the background shifts in precisely the same way. This is not possible with the traditional green screen technology.
LED wall allows motion-tracked cameras to execute traditional cinematography techniques within a virtual set.
Light from LED's provide realistic colors and reflections on actors and props that cannot be achieved with green screen.
The large green screens used for filming would, naturally enough, put a lot of green color on actors and props. This is called spill which requires time and money to remove in post production.
LED allows directors to be able to light any scene in the way they want to that couldn't be done via green screen.
Virtual Sets made possible via LED walls limit the amount of stage space that is needed and this in turn has a huge impact on saving on shooting time and the budget.
LED wall virtual sets save lots of dough on having a cast and crew not required to travel to various locations away from the soundstage, building new and costly sets, and saves time and moolah doing post production.
LED allows the director to make changes to a virtual background or set on the very day of shooting. Astonishing! If it suddenly makes more sense to take a mountain and a lake in the background and have them physically switch places for the story, it can be done right then and there.
Green screen could never allow such a change. If it was deemed critical it would have to be done in lengthy post production.
Changes to exposure, colors, animation playback, fill lighting are all available to film at a moment's notice.
None of that was capable of being changed or altered in any way on the day of shooting with green screen. It would have to wait until post production where it could take weeks or months, assuming it could be achieved at all given the technology, and would add to budget and shooting schedule if the production could afford it.
This YT video makes it crystal clear that this brand new LED wall technology is a enormous game changer for both film and television. Green screen isn't going away anytime soon according to one of the visual effects individuals interviewed ...but its days are numbered. |
