This might be good or not so good. We shall see.
The terrible, amateurish "sequel" -- Beware! The Blob -- is a chore to sit through, and the remake from several years back had poorly done "evil government villains" that were completely unnecessary, not to mention the preacher that went nuts and saved a piece of the Blob for religious reasons.

This is one movie, where CGI would help. The effects in the remake were pretty poor. The Blob moving looked exactly like what it was, fabric being pushed from underneath other fabric. In the original Blob, the effects of the Blob moving were accomplished by filming the silicon (the Blob was a couple of gallons of silicon gel) on miniature sets made of photo cutouts. They would tilt the set, so the Blob would move in the direction they wanted.
I also found the remake to have a very unpleasant mean streak.

After the remake came out I had a friendly argument with a guy at a con, who insisted that the remake was better than the original, because the effects were 'newer'.  He felt that way about all movies, they are better than old ones because they are 'newer'.

One Halloween years ago I was talking to my neighbor about how fun it will be to watch the horror marathon on TCM all day that day.
He agreed.
I then told him that TCM was showing one of my favorites from 1941, The Uninvited.
He replied that he doesn't ever watch any movie in black & white. Color only. |

Dear lord, that is sad. We could all make a long list of movies we love that are in B&W -- and they look awful when somebody tries to colorize them!

Mean streak — yes! That's exactly how it struck me, too!
I watched the original just a few days ago, and I was impressed anew by they creep way the Blob moved. It doesn't just roll along or drip down, it actually heaves up and down, sort of like it's breathing or flexing it's "muscles".
Their simple method of movingit was extremely effective.
And the clever way they created 3-D miniature sets using 2-D cutouts from photographs is not obvious until you know the trick. Clever low-budget way to create high-powered thrills.
