"‘Alien’ Series In The Works At FX With ‘Fargo’ Creator Noah Hawley; Ridley Scott In Advance Talks To EP"
Quote: | FX Boss John Landgraf made official what has been out there for some time: The cable network is moving quickly to make a series based on the hit 20th Century Fox movie franchise Alien with Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley stepping into the creator and EP chair with the network in advance talks with the franchise’s helmer Ridley Scott to join as EP. Landgraf announced the news about the Alien series today during Disney Investor Day.
The series is billed as being the first Alien story set on Earth, and will blend the timeless horror of the original 1979 movie and the non-stop action of the 1986 James Cameron-directed second. |

"Noah Hawley’s Alien Series Will Put The Xenomorphs On Earth"
Quote: | Story-wise, Hawley noted that the series won’t feature Ripley. “She’s one of the great characters of all time,” he said, “and I think [that] story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don’t want to mess with it.”
He also noted that he’s diverging from the films a bit — where Alien is famously a haunted house in space, he noted that this series will be set on Earth, with the idea behind it being “what happens if you can’t contain it” — and noted that “it’s also a story about inequality.” |

"FX Gives New Details on ‘Alien’ TV Series, Teases “Big Surprises”"

Quote: | Alien takes place before Ripley,” he said. “It’s the first story in the Alien franchise that takes place on Earth. It takes place on our planet, near the end of this century we’re currently in — 70-odd years from now. |

The statement below from Ralfy's link above actually did "catch me off guard".
__________________________________________________
The series will be a prequel to the original “Alien,” taking place before Ripley ever graced the screen. The FX executive said that Hawley’s show will take place on Earth at the end of the 21st century, roughly 70 years from now. No characters from the original movies will be involved.

This almost sounds like what Enterprise did — a series several decades before anything we've seen previously. And it takes place on Earth.
Ummm . . . what?
How can there be xenomorphs on Earth several decades before the shipwrecked spacecraft with the eggs is found by the crew of the Nostromo?
Just as puzzling is this little tidbit.

Hawley also revealed that there will be themes of class and equality, with the aliens attacking upper-class, corporate victims, while lower-class marines are the ones sent to sort it out.

For God's sake, why would vicious creatures who only need human bodies to incubate their horrid little offspring give a crap about whether their victims have a corner office and drive a Mercedes?
Maybe I'm wrong, but this series seems to have Titanic written on the bow . . . _________________ ____________

I wonder if it's connected to the Alien vs. Predator franchise, which were set on Earth from 2004 onward.

Ugh. I thought the first AvP was okay, but I couldn't make it through the second one.
This 'set on Earth', aspect doesn't sound well thought-out and, frankly, the whole concept of this show sounds dumb to me.
Glad it isn't centered on Ripley, though. Great character, but fully played out (and then some). Though if the show follows current trends, I imagine it will have an ancestor of Ripley in there somewhere. _________________ "Have you never wondered what it would be like to walk between the ticks and tocks of Time?" |

Maybe Ms. Weaver will play the original Ripley's great grandmother, the victim of an ancient curse which has haunts her family throughout the ages!
After all, Sigorney has the perfect look for the role now without much makeup!

Maybe they can shoehorn in the over-used time travel trope and Ripley can still come to save the day!
Or they can always say this show takes place in an alternate universe _________________ "Have you never wondered what it would be like to walk between the ticks and tocks of Time?" |

Hey, I've got it!
A Bionic Ripley Clone in a "temporal riff suit" who goes back in time to wipe out the aliens on their home planet so they can never pose a threat to the galaxy!

In relation to Ripley's ancestors, check out this movie version of a game entitled "Alien: Isolation," which features Ripley's daughter, Amanda. It uses all of the cut scenes from the game:

It's partly a re-do of the first movie, but includes elements from what could have been the third movie (i.e., political intrigue involving the company, the government, rival governments, etc.).
For those who want to jump to a short description of the game and/or the plot,

I too enjoyed the first AvP film.
I loved the way it explained the backstories of both the Aliens and the Predators. It also explained the relationship they shared, and this provided a complexity to both the "Aliens" and the "Predators" which they needed. _________________ ____________
