I burned through all of the original Thunderbirds episodes on Tubi a while back. I'd never seen any of the Anderson puppet shows before about two-three years ago.

All-in-all this was an enjoyable show. The live-action movie adaptation....not so much.

I absolutely love this show, and until just recently it was on MeTv in the early morning hours.

The sets and props were magnificent, and I always enjoyed trying to spot the strings on the marionettes, which is a chore as they are usually very well hidden.

I thought the writing was great, and this is a fun action/adventure series that is great if you are able to disengage your brain for an hours' worth of fun.

Creator, producer, writer, director Gerry Anderson is noted for being at the heart of the development of the Video Assist device which is still in use today.

This takes a lightweight camera and attaches it to a movie film camera. This allows for the transmission of scenes being filmed to a monitor in order for the director to be able to immediately replay the scene he just shot.

Sidebar: I've also read that Jerry Lewis is responsible for this invention.

Legendary special effects designer Derek Meddings realized that tackling Thunderbirds would be one of the biggest projects he had ever worked.

It was a fifty minute show, unlike the previous Gerry & Sylvia Anderson puppet TV shows which were a half-hour.

Derek knew the FX Department needed to be expanded. He created a second unit, and a third unit to film the model aircraft. Five stages were utilized for this production. Approximately 18 special effects shots were filmed each day. Some episodes comprised 100 special effects in total.
