Another U.N.C.L.E. feature compiled from episodes.
Jack Palance is the guest egomaniac-who-wants-to-conquer-the-world -- this time by using a sonic weapon to change the course of the Gulf Stream.
Ambitious and original, I'll give it that.
As always, the appealing regulars and the likable guest stars are the show's biggest assets. Along with Robert Vaughn, David McCallum, and Leo G. Carroll, this one offers Janet Leigh ("Psycho"), Joan Blondell, and Slapsy Maxie Rosenblum. Directed by Joseph Sargent.

* Just to show how much fun I'm having restoring and enhancing the posters for these threads, this is what I started with!
I had to paint in Robert Vaughn's suit from scratch! And somebody stuck a foot onto Robert's left leg -- but it's in the wrong place, making his leg look bent above the ankle, and too long!
I fixed that, too.

I was just admiring the poster before scrolling down and seeing your footnote about it. _________________ ...or not...

Thanks, Wayne. I can't figure out how Robert's image on the poster acquired those strange light-and-dark horizontal areas. They can't be folds in the poster, because the area around him is flawless!
I just had to start painting in folds, shadows, and light areas until it looked reasonable correct.
Then I noticed the strange way his left ankle looked. Perhaps the black "corner" behind the calf of the near-side leg is supposed to be the cuff of his far-side pants leg -- but that wouldn't agree with the position of his legs and feet, since the far-side knee is further left than the near-side one.
I had to copy his ankle and shoe, move it up, and paint out the original shoe that showed below the relocated version.
I was pleased with the final results.

It gives me the impression of paper that got soaked with too much ink. Maybe they had to lay it on too heavy to get the black dark enough.

I'm thinking it's the convention of making actors leggy on posters. Usually it's done for the ladies, but men also get the treatment. (Think of the Our Man Flint, et al, posters.) The weird spur on his calf seems to be the heel of his right foot. His whole right foot is weird, for that matter. It's all more pointy. He probably had his feet closer together when he was photographed, and the artist had to fake his right foot by eye. _________________ ...or not...

I wonder if this is the movie that recycles the laser crystal weapon from George Pal's "Atlantis:The Lost Continent"& uses it here as a sonic weapon?
It was an awesome looking prop in Pal's movie.
Speaking of recycling: In A:TLC I noticed some of the Krel computers in the background for a scene.
And I believe that George reused the footage of Atlantis sinking for this movie in his "The Circus of Dr.Lao." |

Not really a TVM, the U.N.C.L.E. movies were intended to be shown in theaters. They would film some additional scenes with a little skin and violence, add some music, a new title...BOOM! Instant theatrical film.

I believe the "bundled" movies were for foreign and European distribution. I don't ever recall seeing them localy in any event. |

A different take on the poster artwork, from Germany:
And here's what sixtiescity.net has to say about the movie:
Quote: | The Spy in the Green Hat[/i] is a feature length film version of The Man from U.N.C.L.E.'s season three two-part episode 'The Concrete Overcoat Affair'. This film made only minimal changes to the television presentation with the musical cues remaining essentially the same and with no major scenes being either added or removed.
Some short scenes were added that were more violent, sexual and disturbing than were generally allowed to be shown on U.S. network television at the time. The deaths of Luger and von Kronen are extended and shown in more detail and Pia Monteri is briefly shown in the film nude, from the back, a scene that was edited out for the TV version.
Janet Leigh, as Miss Diketon, delivers lines in the film in a way that displays the sensual pleasure she receives from both inflicting and receiving pain, dialogue that was also removed from the television version. The 'Spy in the green hat' of the title is Mr. Thaler of T.H.R.U.S.H., played by Will Kuluva who had played the head of U.N.C.L.E. as Mr. Allison in the unaired series pilot episode. |
I would say that the movie versions of the UNCLE adventures did get a theatrical release in Britain. I certainly remember going along to the local picture house for "Mission Impossible Versus the Mob"... |

That's a Belgian poster. The text is bilingual, in French and Flemish (the Dutch dialect spoken in Belgium). |

Since it wasn't a movie for TV, is the topic title going to be changed to be accurate? Bud? _________________ * * *

I think that some of the more popular ones did get a theatrical release in the U.S., I can remember seeing a commercial for one on TV back in the 60s.

There certainly seems to be no shortage of action in this U.N.C.L.E. feature film.
Watch for a quick shot of the death ray from Atlantis: The Lost Continent!

Janet Leigh said that she decided to guest star on the MFU because her daughter, Jamie Lee was a fan of the show.

I tried to find this episode on YouTube but was not successful. However I did find the scene below. I'm not sure which episode it's from, but I was amused by the way this rather unimpressive "fight" includes only one actual punch!
But watch the way the two ladies are positioned on their hands and knees, face-to-face, and slashing at each other with their fingernails.
In other words . . . it's a cat fight!
