High marks for this British-made film with exteriors shot on location in Norway.

Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson), an employee of the world's largest search engine company, gets to spend a week with CEO Nathan (Oscar Isaac) at his remote private retreat to perform a Turing test on Ava (Alicia Vikander), Nathan's newly and secretly developed AI robot. Since Ava is obviously artificial from the outset, Caleb is puzzled as to the point of the test.

Oscar Isaac, playing the wealthy genius, maintains an edgy tension that keeps the viewer wondering about his ulterior motives. Good performances all around from an intelligent script.

The US produces Transformers. How sad.

I was surprised when watching the bonus disc to find out that xM (so as not to be confused with XM) was filmed on a modest budget: estimated $11,000,000 (just under $12M). Coulda fooled me. In fact, it did.

This is a very intelligent movie, although it's a bit grim in some ways. Just sayin'.

But the robot FX are astounding! A true work of art. Cool

This was an awesome movie!

Thanks to the producers for making a film worth watching.

I was VERY surprised at this movie. I gave it a pass when it came out (as I do most movies, it takes a lot to get me into a movie theater). I had wanted to watch it on later on NetFlix, but I forgot about it.

When I finally watched it 18 months ago I was floored.

How could a film this good be completely ignored by, well, everyone! But as Pow posted, Transformers was out.

Is that a sad statement about our culture? Maybe.

Sometimes I think the machines should win.

And that brings us back to this movie.

Excellent! That's it, just Excellent.

Had this been done in the US it would probably been ruined.

The story is engaging, and exciting (in it's own way), and Frightening. It made me wish, once again, for Asimov's 3 laws.

Ava seems to be running the show from the start. Cold, calculating, determined. Does she have emotions? Or is she just a very good mimic?

Caleb is completely out of his league. Sadly I think this is going to be the case with true AI when/if if arrives.
