The Geminid Meteor shower reaches its peak next Tuesday.

The article speculates a little about its origins, apparently Jupiter's orbit pushed the dust tail from the comet Phaethon into our orbital path, giving rise to the Geminid showers around the mid 19th c.

at least I'll try to watch it. My neighborhood isn't really ideal for skywatching, and it's really cold out. Besides, the forecast round my neck of the universe says it's gonna rain on and off for awhile.

I'm afraid that The Day of the Triffids put me right off the idea of watching meteor showers, as it was what people assumed to be a spectacular meteor shower that blinded almost everyone... Shocked

Around here it can be clear every day right up until the day (night) of the shower, then boom. Clouds. Or at least a heavy haze. But it's been cloudy every day lately anyway, so prospects are slim.
