J.L. Roop probably worked with Willis (King Kong) O'Brien on the stop-motion for 1925's The Lost World. For sure, he worked on the spoof of that famous dino film. Some brief scenes:

The link above no longer works, but this one does, although it's not The Lost Whirl.
It's a ten minute comedy done entirely with stop motion, after an opening demonstration by R.L. Loop to show how the models were made. (Please be aware that the humor has a few moments that are considered racist today.)
Stop motion fans will thoroughly enjoy this fine example of the art form.
Here's the description of the movie, from the Youtube site itself.

"Among [Willis] O'Brien's animation assistants on The Lost World was Los Angeles sculptor J. L. Roop, of whom the Museum's Seaver Center for Western History Research maintains a collection of scrapbooks, photographs, articles and other items. One of Roop's models from The Lost World is housed in the Museum's History Department. Three years following The Lost World, Roop did the rather crude special dinosaur effects for The Lost Whirl, a comedy inspired by (but not really based on) the original film." _________________ ____________

Better late than never ... let's try this (I've been trapped in a time paradox for the past couple of years):
