Haven't seen this one yet, but it's on the way from Netfix, so I'll post my opinions in a few days. Here's what the critics say on Wikipedia.
________________________________
At the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 91% based on 370 reviews, with an average rating of 7.27/10.
The website's critical consensus reads, "An effortlessly entertaining blend of humor and heart, Shazam! is a superhero movie that never forgets the genre's real power: joyous wish fulfillment."
On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 70 out of 100, based on 53 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews." Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A" on an A+ to F scale, while those at PostTrak gave it an overall positive score of 83% and a 61% "definite recommend."
Nick Allen of RogerEbert.com said that, "While Shazam! is goofier (and darker) than it may look, you'll wish its superhero came with a little more spark," while The Hollywood Reporter's Frank Scheck called the film "Big on steroids" and praised the tone and performances.
Alonso Duralde of TheWrap wrote, "If the Wonder Woman and Aquaman movies represented DC Comics' first big-screen steps away from the austere color palette of the Zack Snyder movies, Shazam! takes us deeply into primary colors in a single bound . . . this new DC entry has a lovely lightness, both in the visuals and in its tone."

Director David F. Sandberg Adds Henry Cavill to the Final Scene’s Superman Cameo
https://www.slashfilm.com/shazam-director-david-f-sandberg-adds-henry-cavill-to-the-final-scenes-superman-cameo/
Fans of the DC Extended Universe as created by Zack Snyder have gotten a lot of good news over the past couple weeks. Not only is Zack Snyder’s Justice League getting released by HBO Max, but apparently Man of Steel star Henry Cavill will be sticking around as Superman, albeit in an uncertain capacity.
Now that Henry Cavill has been confirmed to continue playing Superman, fans have been asking for something else. They want director David F. Sandberg to add Henry Cavill’s head to the previously faceless cameo made by The Big Blue Boy Scout at the end of the Shazam! last year. Well, ask and you shall receive, because that’s exactly what the filmmaker has done. Check it out below and have your Superman dreams come true.
[The video at the site does not work on my computer — Eadie.]
Henry Cavill’s future in the DC Extended Universe was unclear at the time Shazam! was made, so he wasn’t brought in to show his face as Superman. But with this clip, Henry Cavill is now in Shazam!, and now he’s got a cool elongated neck like some kind of dragon person. Are you happy now? You got what you wanted. If this isn’t satisfying, then maybe you need to be more specific with your demands.
Sandberg is having a laugh here, but it’s clear that it’s probably been annoying for fans to be asking for something totally unnecessary in the grand scheme of things. It’s obvious that’s Superman appearing at the end of the movie, and you don’t need Henry Cavill’s face to sell it.
Now that Zack Snyder’s Justice League is getting released by HBO Max, fans have moved on to their next demand, which is to have the streaming service release David Ayer’s cut of Suicide Squad, something that sounds like it might actually be easier than finishing Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Pandora’s box has been opened, and there’s no going back.
Stay tuned to find out what happens with the future of Superman in the DC Extended Universe. _________________ ____________

I finally saw this great movie about a year ago, and I loved it! This is a lot like some of the more lighthearted sci-fi movies form the 1980s and 1990s, like these!
WarGames (1983)
The Last Starfighter (1984)
Back to the Future trilogy (1985, 1989, 1990)
Real Genius (1985)
Short Circuit (1986)
SpaceCamp (1986)
Innerspace (1987)
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989)
Tremors (1990)
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)
The Rocketeer (1991)
Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992)
Demolition Man (1993)
Timecop (1994)
Congo (1995)
Men in Black (1997)
Godzila (1998)
Galaxy Quest (1999)
Mystery Men (1999)
By gum, I think I just made a list of All Sci-Fi's Featured Threads for next week! Fun Science Fiction Movies from the 80s and 90s!
A few days ago I bought the DVD of Shazam! from Amazon, and I'm watching it again right now. So, if any of you folks happened to have my phone number — of which there are several— please don't call until later today.
However, if anybody wants to watch this movie with me in All Sci-Fi's Chatzy Room in the near future, please send me a PM.
I'd love to share it! _________________ ____________

Shazam! 2 is in the works, but that damn Coronavirus has delayed it until 2023, which means all the original child actors will be four years older by then . . . and thus either too old to play their roles or the roles will be recast with new kids.
Hopefully, the same adult actors will be back, because this amazing movie has a "dream cast", and I love the film as much as any superhero movie ever made.
It's awesome!
Check the video in the article below, a great interview with star Zachary Levi (which is coolest name ever.)

The Shazam Family will be back.
By Ian Sandwell 20/10/2020
__________
Shazam! 2 is coming to bring us more of the Shazam Family, but we're going to have to wait a while for it.
The first movie disappointed at the box office as the lowest-grossing Worlds of DC movie at the time (a dubious honour that's now been taken by Birds of Prey). However, it was well-loved by critics and fans which likely prompted Warner Bros to confirm a sequel.
